In September 2022, Danone North America put its mission of bringing health through food to as many people as possible into action by announcing a $22 million investment over seven years to support healthier dietary habits for Americans.

The announcement came as part of the White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition and Health, an event designed to mobilize the public and private sectors around ending hunger, improving nutrition and physical activity, and closing the disparities surrounding them. The conference brought together government officials, business leaders and advocates to discuss and problem-solve around these issues. The 2022 event was just the second White House conference in history on this topic. The first one was held in 1969 by President Nixon and had significant lasting policy effects including improvements to federal feeding programs like the WIC program, SNAP and school meals.

Danone’s commitment seeks to improve access to and availability of nutritious and health-promoting foods. Our investments will serve to improve food access and affordability, integrate nutrition and health, empower consumers with the knowledge to make healthy choices, and enhance nutrition and food security research. Details of the commitment include:

  • Devoting $15 million by 2030 to further nutrition education for consumers and healthcare providers.

  • Investing $3 million by 2030 to improve access and affordability of nutrient-dense and health-promoting products, especially for those in underserved communities.

  • Committing $4 million to enhance nutrition and food security research through grants, industry collaboration, and non-profit organizations, such as the Danone Institute North America.

  • Continuing to offer low and no sugar options, specifically limiting sugar content in more than 95% of our children’s products and increasing the nutrient density of more than 70% of our plant-based beverages.

You can learn more about our commitments by reading the press release.

Shane Grant, Deputy CEO, Americas, EVP Essential Dairy, Plant-Based & Sales, joined the Conference as a panelist. “We were honored to have this historic opportunity to engage stakeholders across the food system to address these critical topics,” he said. “As a leading food and beverage company, we know we are uniquely positioned to help advance an equitable food system for Americans of all backgrounds.” Click here to view the recorded session featuring Shane.
