STōK Cold Brew Coffee announced a historic partnership as the first-ever stadium sponsor of the Wrexham Association Football Club’s Racecourse Ground. Home to the Wrexham AFC Red Dragons, the STōK Cae Ras – Welsh for the STōK Racecourse – was built in 1807 and is the world’s oldest international football stadium.
Wrexham AFC made international headlines in late 2020 when it was purchased by Hollywood A-listers Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. McElhenney and Reynolds announced the STōK partnership news themselves in a video, where they secretly replaced the team’s afternoon tea with cold brew.
STōK – which doesn’t sell its cold brew in the United Kingdom – seized the opportunity to be part of this historic team’s comeback story. “Some may wonder why a U.S.-based cold brew brand would sponsor a tea-drinking Welsh football team. The answer: STōK is all about bold moves,” said Brittney Polka, Vice President of Ready-to-Drink Beverages at Danone North America. “We were captivated by the story of Wrexham—the team, the fans, and the community—and we’re honored to be welcomed into the Wrexham family. We’ll be cheering on the Red Dragons and raising our cold brews from afar.”
In addition to the STōK Cae Ras, STōK was a key sponsor of Wrexham’s first U.S. Summer Tour. The team played against Major League Soccer and Premier League teams in Chapel Hill, N.C., Los Angeles, San Diego and Philadelphia, hosting more than 130,000 attendees over the four games and at fan fests featuring games, giveaways and STōK samples. STōK also seized the opportunity to build on top-tier media relationships, including the TODAY Show!
